The Commission on the Status of Grandparents Raising Grandchildren will be convening workshops this fall throughout Massachusetts. Each workshop is approximately three hours long. A guest speaker will present at each workshop a topic important to relative caregivers. Each presentation will be followed by an information panel, which includes representatives from agencies who work with grandparents raising grandchildren and relative caregivers such as DTA, DCF, Masshealth, WIC, Elder Services, and more. Local community support providers will also be present.
(Two Part Workshop)
Dates: 06/05/2025 and 06/12/2025
Time: 12:30 pm - 2:30 pm
Location: Zoom
Presented by Riverside Trauma Center
In this two part workshop, Riverside Trauma Center will present a foundational understanding of trauma that custodial grandparents or their grandchildren (ages 12+) may be experiencing.
Attendees will learn about different types of trauma, characteristics of traumatic responses, and risk and protective factors that can influence how an individual responds to trauma.
Part two of this series will focus on self-care during periods of high stress for caregivers. A discussion about toxic stress will lead to a better understanding for caregivers of how to manage periods of stress, "re-set and re-think" unique experiences of stress, and examples of how to regulate and combat stress will be presented.
